A reusable opt-out request letter
A short, firm template you can send when a broker has no online form — or ignores the one it has.
When to use it
Most brokers have an online opt-out (this index links straight to them). Use a letter or email when there is no form, when a request is ignored, or when you want a dated paper trail.
Template
Subject: Opt-out / deletion request
To whom it may concern,
I am requesting that you (1) stop selling or sharing my personal information, and (2) delete the personal information you hold about me, to the extent permitted by law.
Identifying details (so you can locate my record):
- Full name: ____
- Current city / state: ____
- Any profile URL you display for me: ____
I am exercising my rights under applicable privacy law (including the CCPA/CPRA if I am a California resident, or the GDPR if I am in the EU/UK). Please confirm in writing when this is complete, and do not use these details for any purpose other than fulfilling this request.
Sincerely,
Tips
- Send from an email you control and keep the sent copy.
- Give only what's needed to find your record — never a government ID unless the broker's verified process specifically requires it.
- If you get no response in a reasonable time, follow up once, then consider a complaint to the relevant regulator.
